How to Backup and Restore Phone WhatsApp Messages?

Want to back up your WhatsApp data and restore it to another phone? MobileTrans lets you back up WhatsApp from iPhone or Android to your computer and restore it when needed. With the new AI Clean feature, you can also analyze backup content before restoring, remove unnecessary files, and save storage space for a faster and more efficient restore process.

Step 1. Launch MobileTrans on Your Computer

Open MobileTrans on your computer and select Backup & Restore > App and choose WhatsApp. In the WhatsApp backup and restore workspace, you can view backup records, restore them to your device, or use the new AI Clean feature to optimize a backup before restoring.

Step 2. Connect Your iPhone or Android Phone

Connect your iPhone or Android phone to the computer.

Once the device is connected, MobileTrans will recognize it automatically.

Step 3. Start the WhatsApp Backup

• Click the Start button to begin backing up your WhatsApp data.
• For iPhone, no additional operation is required during backup.
• For Android, MobileTrans will guide you through the local WhatsApp backup process after you click Start.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to back up WhatsApp data to your Android device's internal storage.

• Then log in to WhatsApp on the Android device and restore the backup from the phone's internal storage when prompted.

Step 4. Complete the Backup

Keep your phone connected during the entire backup process. Once the backup is complete, you will see a confirmation screen in MobileTrans.

Step 5. Use AI Clean to Optimize the Backup Before Restoring

Before restoring a backup to your phone, you can use AI Clean to analyze the backup content and remove unnecessary items. The AI Data Optimization window helps identify content that may be excluded from restoration to save storage space and improve restore efficiency.

• Large files that take up significant storage space
• Duplicate media that does not need to be restored twice
• Low-value files that you may choose to exclude
• Corrupt or invalid files that cannot be restored properly

Review the suggested items and deselect any content you do not want to restore. Then click AI Clean to continue.

After cleanup is complete, MobileTrans will show how much storage space has been saved. You can then proceed with restoring the optimized backup.

Step 6. Restore WhatsApp Messages

• Find the WhatsApp backup record you want to use and click Restore.

• Wait while MobileTrans converts and restores the selected WhatsApp data to the destination phone.
• Keep the device connected until the restore is complete.
