How to turn on two-factor authentication for your Apple Account?
Two-factor authentication adds a second step to Apple Account sign-ins, which makes it much harder for someone else to access your account with only a password.
Why It Matters
- Sign-ins on a new device or browser require a six-digit verification code.
- It is now the default security method for most Apple Accounts.
- Many Apple features work best or require it.
What to Do
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Go to Sign-In & Security or the equivalent security section for your iOS version.
- Tap Two-Factor Authentication and follow the prompts.
- Verify your trusted phone number and keep at least one number current.
Pro Tip
If your account was created on a newer Apple device, two-factor authentication may already be on. Check before assuming you still need to enable it.
