How to set up fingerprint or face unlock on Samsung?
Samsung lets you use fingerprint, face unlock, or both for faster access, but you still need a PIN, pattern, or password as the base screen lock. Fingerprint is usually the stronger everyday choice for security.
Steps
- Open Settings and go to Security and privacy, or Lock screen and AOD, then open Screen lock and biometrics.
- Set a PIN, pattern, or password if you do not already have one.
- Choose Fingerprints or Face recognition and follow the on-screen enrollment steps.
- Turn on the unlock and verification options you want to use after registration finishes.
Quick Checks
- Fingerprint unlock is usually more secure than face unlock on many Galaxy models.
- A new screen protector can affect fingerprint reading and may require re-registration.
- You will still need your PIN, pattern, or password after restarts and in other special cases.
Tips
- Register the same finger more than once from slightly different angles if your phone allows it.
- Do not forget the backup PIN or password, because biometrics do not fully replace it.
- Menu names can vary slightly by model, carrier, or One UI version.
