“How to delete WhatsApp videos on my phone – it is taking too much space and I want to get rid of them permanently!”
As a friend of mine asked me this, I realized that it is not just me who encounter this issue in WhatsApp. Chances are that you might also get too many videos on WhatsApp that you might not wish to keep on your phone. Thankfully, you can delete videos from WhatsApp in different ways – from the app or your device storage. In this post, I will let you know how to delete videos from WhatsApp or take their backup in advance.
Pro Tip: Backup WhatsApp Videos before Deleting Them
Part 1: How to Delete WhatsApp Videos from a Group Chat?
Part 2: How to Delete Videos from WhatsApp on Android Devices?
Part 3: How to Delete Videos from WhatsApp on an iPhone?
Before we discuss how to delete WhatsApp videos, it is important to take their backup. Since after deleting your WhatsApp videos, you won’t be able to access them anymore. Therefore, you can use MobileTrans – WhatsApp Transfer to first take a backup of your device. Once a backup is maintained, you can just connect your phone to it and learn how to restore WhatsApp videos easily.
A lot of times, we get too many messages and videos in group chats on WhatsApp. Therefore, to start our tutorial, I’m going to provide a seamless technique to delete videos from WhatsApp group chats. Ideally, you can apply the same technique to get rid of unwanted videos from your groups on WhatsApp.
Step 1. Firstly, just launch WhatsApp on your device and enter the group from where you wish to delete your video. From here, you can hold and select multiple videos if you want to.
Step 2. Once the respective videos are selected, just tap on the delete (trash) icon from the top.
Step 3. Now, WhatsApp will give you an option to delete the selected video just for you or for everyone in the group.
Step 4. If you have selected “Delete for me”, then the video will simply be removed for you. If the “Delete for All” option is selected, then a message for the media deletion will replace the video for everyone.
Please note that this method can only delete videos from a WhatsApp group, but it can’t get rid of the videos the other group users might have saved on their phones.
You might already know that Android users get a lot of features to manage their WhatsApp data. If you want, you can delete videos from WhatsApp for a particular user or get rid of all the stored videos as well. Besides that, you can also turn off the auto-download option for videos to save time. Here are some of these suggestions and tips on how to delete WhatsApp videos on Android.
If you only wish to delete a few WhatsApp videos, then first launch the app, and go to any conversation. From here, you can just select any video (or videos) and long-tap the thumbnail.
Go to the top and tap on the delete (trash) icon now. Afterward, you can choose to delete the video just for you or for both people in the chat.
If you own an Android phone, then you can delete all the saved WhatsApp videos in one go. To do this, just launch any File Manager app on your device and browse to your phone’s Internal Storage > WhatsApp > Media > WhatsApp Videos. Here, you can select all the saved WhatsApp videos and delete them together.
Besides that, you can also launch WhatsApp and go to its Settings > Storage and Data > Manage Storage. Here, you can see all the large videos and how much storage WhatsApp is consuming.
Now, you can tap on any group or contact from the list to view the shared videos. You can select all videos here and tap on the delete icon to get rid of them.
Lastly, you can also turn off the option to automatically save videos on your device. Just go to the WhatsApp Settings > Data and Storage Usage > Media Auto-download and turn off the downloading option for videos for different instances.
Just like Android, you can delete videos from WhatsApp on an iOS device as well. You can choose to delete all the saved videos for a chat or can remove the video of your choice. Here are some tips on how to delete WhatsApp videos on an iPhone.
If there is a specific video that you wish to delete, then you can just launch the WhatsApp chat and long-tap on the thumbnail. Now, you can either tap on the trash icon from the bottom or on the “Delete” button from the context menu to remove it.
You can also delete all videos from WhatsApp for any chat on your iPhone. Simply launch WhatsApp and tap on the chat icon to get more options. Now, select the “Media, Links, and Docs” option to view all the exchanged media. You can now select all the shared videos on WhatsApp and delete them.
Similarly, you can also go to the WhatsApp Settings > Data and Storage Usage > Storage Usage and select any contact from the list. You can now select the “Videos” option and tap on the “Clear” button to remove all the exchanged videos with the user.
To save space on your iPhone, you can also go to WhatsApp Settings > Chats and turn off the option to automatically download media (to Camera Roll).
There you go! After reading this post, you would be able to delete videos from WhatsApp in a jiffy. As you can see, I have shared different ways on how to delete videos from WhatsApp on Android and iOS devices. Though, before you take any drastic step, consider taking a backup of your WhatsApp data with a reliable tool like MobileTrans – WhatsApp Transfer. In this way, you can make more free space on your device without losing anything important on WhatsApp.
