How to Transfer Contacts to iPhone Duo from Android or iPhone
Contacts can be transferred to iPhone Duo from Android or another iPhone using Move to iOS, account syncing, or a vCard file. Move to iOS works during initial iPhone setup, while Google Contacts or iCloud can sync contacts after setup. A vCard is useful when only selected contacts need to move.
Steps
- Choose a transfer method. For a new iPhone Duo, use Move to iOS for Android contacts. For an iPhone-to-iPhone transfer, use iCloud Contacts. For a device already set up, use Google Contacts or a vCard.
- Transfer Android contacts during setup. Install Move to iOS on the Android phone. During iPhone Duo setup, choose Transfer Your Apps & Data and then From Android. Enter the displayed code in the Android app and select contacts.
- Sync Android contacts after setup. On Android, confirm that contacts are synced with a Google account. On iPhone Duo, open Settings > Apps > Contacts > Contacts Accounts > Add Account, select Google, and enable Contacts.
- Sync contacts from another iPhone. Sign in to the same Apple Account on both iPhones and enable Settings > [name] > iCloud > Contacts on the source iPhone. Keep both devices connected to the internet until syncing finishes.
- Use a vCard for selected contacts. Export contacts as a
.vcffile from the source device or contacts service, send the file to iPhone Duo, and open it to add the contacts.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Move to iOS does not appear: The iPhone Duo may already be set up. Use Google Contacts or a vCard instead, or erase the iPhone and restart setup only after backing up existing data.
- Some Android contacts are missing: The contacts may be stored on the SIM or only on the device. Import them into Google Contacts first, then sync the Google account with iPhone Duo.
- iPhone contacts do not sync: Contacts may be disabled in iCloud settings, or the devices may use different Apple Accounts. Enable Contacts or export and import a vCard.
- Duplicate contacts appear: Contacts may sync from multiple accounts. Check account settings and use the Contacts app’s duplicate-merging option when available.
Quick Tips
- Keep both phones charged and connected to Wi-Fi during a large transfer.
- SIM contact import may be available under Settings > Apps > Contacts > Import SIM Contacts; SIM cards do not store every contact field.
- Work or school accounts may restrict contact syncing. Check account policies if the Contacts option is unavailable.
Related Questions
Can Android contacts move to iPhone Duo after setup?
Yes. Add the Google account that stores the contacts in iPhone Duo settings and enable Contacts, or import a vCard file.
Will transferring contacts delete the originals?
No. Syncing or importing contacts normally adds copies to the destination and leaves source contacts unchanged.
