How to Fix Quick Start Stuck in the Apps & Data Loop

Quick Start usually gets stuck in the Apps & Data loop because of unstable Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi, a partial setup failure, low battery, or an iOS mismatch between devices. The fastest fix is to restart both iPhones, update iOS, keep both devices plugged in, and restart the transfer from the beginning.

Steps
  1. Restart both iPhones. Power off the old iPhone and the new iPhone, then turn both back on. A fresh restart often clears pairing and setup glitches.
  2. Check Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, and power. Keep Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi enabled on both devices. Connect both iPhones to power and place them close together during setup.
  3. Update iOS on both devices. Install the latest iOS version on the old iPhone and the new iPhone. A version mismatch often causes Quick Start to freeze during Apps & Data.
  4. Erase the new iPhone and start again if needed. If the new iPhone is already trapped in setup, erase it and repeat Quick Start from the first screen. A partial transfer often causes the loop to repeat.
  5. Use another transfer method if the loop continues. Restore from iCloud, or use a cable-based transfer if wireless setup keeps failing.
Common Issues and Fixes
  • Apps & Data screen returns again and again — A partial setup is likely stuck. Fix: erase the new iPhone and begin setup again.
  • Transfer pauses on “Preparing” or “Estimating time” — Weak wireless connection or low battery is common. Fix: charge both devices and keep them near each other.
  • Old iPhone does not appear during setup — Bluetooth may be off, or a VPN/hotspot may interfere. Fix: disable VPN, turn on Bluetooth, and retry pairing.
  • Quick Start skips apps or data — Insufficient storage or outdated iOS can block migration. Fix: free space and update both phones first.
  • “Why is my iPhone not letting me transfer to a new iPhone” — Apple ID mismatch or setup interruption is often the cause. Fix: sign in with the same Apple ID and restart the transfer.
Quick Tips
  • Keep both iPhones unlocked during the initial pairing screen.
  • Avoid switching Wi‑Fi networks during setup.
  • Large photo libraries and app data can make transfer time much longer.
  • If eSIM transfer is involved, complete the phone transfer first, then check carrier activation separately.
🤔Note:

A setup interruption is the most common reason. The new iPhone often needs a full erase before another Quick Start attempt.

Why does Quick Start keep looping at Apps & Data?

A setup interruption is the most common reason. The new iPhone often needs a full erase before another Quick Start attempt.

Can Quick Start be resumed after failure?

Usually not cleanly. A failed transfer often requires a fresh setup, especially after a restart or network change.

💡Protip:

For repeated phone transfer stuck issues, a dedicated transfer tool such as MobileTrans can move data outside the Quick Start setup flow and reduce the chance of the Apps & Data loop.
