WhatsApp is turning out to be a vital communication channel these days. Here, people exchange messages, documents, and media files without paying a coin.
However, sometimes you may want to WhatsApp export chat from Android to any other device. This should be the case if you just bought a brand-new smartphone. Fortunately, exporting WhatsApp chat from Android to Android or any other device is quick and easy, as this article proves.
In this section, you’ll learn two methods to back up WhatsApp messages on a phone or computer. Let’s dive in!
As you may already know, WhatsApp comes with its inbuilt backup feature to help users save all their chat history. This software enables Android users to periodically back up their chats on Google Drive. For iPhone users, WhatsApp allows all chat backups via iCloud. So, for this guidepost, you’ll learn how to transfer WhatsApp chat from Android to Android via Google Drive.
But before you proceed to save your chats on a new phone, make sure your old phone is synced to WhatsApp Google Drive already. Google Drive comes with enough storage to save all your conversations.
Here are the tutorials for backing up chats through Google Drive:
Step 1. Fire up WhatsApp on your old Android phone and then tap the Ellipsis icon at the top-right corner. From there, click Settings.
Step 2. Next, click Chats and then tap Chat backup from the available options.
Step 3. Tap Account and then add your Google Drive address. You’ll see all your Gmail accounts linked to your phone by default.
Step 4. After successfully setting up a Google Drive account, tap Back Up to start saving your WhatsApp chats on Google Drive. Remember to enable the Include videos to toggle to backup all your shared clips. However, this will slow down the backup process.
Once the backup process on your old device is successful, it’s time to import the WhatsApp data on your new phone. Again, doing that is self-explanatory:
Step 1. Install and launch WhatsApp on your new device, then follow the on-screen instructions to set up the account. Remember to use the same phone number you used on the old phone.
Step 2. Now WhatsApp will automatically scan for backups from Google Drive or phone storage. If it finds any, you simply need to click Restore.
Step 3. Finally, enter your WhatsApp name and select the backup routine. And there is that!
Note: If you’re transferring WhatsApp chat from Android to iPhone, you’ll see a “Restore Chat History” button.
Sometimes you may want to export WhatsApp chats from phone to PC and enjoy reading the messages on a bigger display. If that’s the case, then use Wondershare MobileTrans. This Windows program is excitingly simple to use, and the data transfer process is quick and smooth.
Users can transfer videos, photos, audio, screenshots, texts, and even WhatsApp status updates. Just enable USB debugging and start backing up data on apps like WhatsApp, Viber, WeChat, and more. Let’s see how to do that!
Step 1. Install and launch MobileTrans.
Visit the official website to download, install, and run MobileTrans on your PC. After running it, tap the Profile icon to log into the program and unlock its full capabilities.
Step 2. Open the backup and restore feature.
Next, press the Backup & Restore tab before clicking Backup app data. You’ll see several apps to backup data from. In that case, Choose WhatsApp and then follow the on-screen instructions to enable USB debugging and connect the two devices.
Step 3. Transfer data from WhatsApp to PC.
In the next window, you’ll see the type of WhatsApp data that you’ll import to your computer. Interestingly, you can import media files only by tapping the Only files checkbox. Then, if satisfied, click Start to begin the process. This should take just a few seconds, depending on the file size.
Pro tip: After uploading your WhatsApp data successfully, click View it and then tap View to see the destination folder. Proceed to change it to something more accessible.
We all know that Android WhatsApp backs up data on Google Drive. However, accessing WhatsApp folders on this cloud storage isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. That’s because Google Drive hides your WhatsApp data in plain sight. Also, you can only view the folders in your computer browser and not directly on the Google Drive app. What’s more, this option only allows you to view and disconnect your WhatsApp backup. In other words, there’s nothing much here.
Step-by-step guide for locating WhatsApp backup data on Google Drive:
Step 1. Use your computer browser to open Google Drive and sign in using your email address. Remember, this should be the same email used to back up your data on WhatsApp.
Step 2. After logging into the account, tap the gear icon at the top-right corner and tap Settings.
Step 3. From here, you have two options. First, click Manage Apps and then scroll down to WhatsApp Messenger. Next to it, click the Options drop-down arrow and choose whether to disconnect WhatsApp from Google Drive.
Alternatively, click “View items taking up storage” and then tap Backups. Now click your WhatsApp backup to turn it off or delete the backup.
So, the next time you want to change phones, don’t lose your vital WhatsApp data due to negligence. It’s good to back up your WhatsApp data on Google Drive periodically. This way, you can transfer everything to your new phone. And yes, use Wondershare MobileTrans to export all your WhatsApp data from phone to PC. Thank me later!
