1. Pricing and release date

If you want to pre-order the phone, you can do so from today (February 9), with the retail release coming on February 25th. So, it's a matter of being patient.

It has been confirmed on the Galaxy Unpacked that Samsung's kept the starting prices for the S22 the same as those for the S21 series, which is $799 for Galaxy S22, and Galaxy S22 Plus will cost $999, with Galaxy S22 Ultra costing $1,199.

2. Display and design

As we're approaching the launch date, there are lots of speculations about the looks of the Galaxy S22 series. Compared to the S21, the S22 model is slightly smaller and more pocket-friendly. It measures 146 x 70.5 x 7.6 mm, which is way smaller than its predecessor's 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9 mm. Put simply, it's slightly bigger than the miniature S10e.

Meanwhile, both phones boast the beautiful Dynamic AMOLED display, although the S21 features a slightly bigger display at 6.2 inches. As expected, both phones max out at 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. You can even drop the refresh rate to 48Hz if the task at hand is not that demanding. Overall, the display is perfect for watching videos, movies, and playing games.

3. Cameras

Camera-wise, S22 brings some sweeping changes to the table. That's because the new series is tipped to house a new rear camera design, which could see them take a "P" shape. However, that's not all; the main lens gets a 50MP upgrade alongside the 10MP telephoto and 12MP ultrawide. In addition, the telephoto lens gets a 3x optical zoom, which is a significant upgrade on the S21's 1.1x.

Think that's anything? It claims that the phone could pack a record-shattering 200MP main camera. If anything, this could be the highest pixel count on any Samsung smartphone, considering Galaxy S21 Ultra maxes out at 108MP wide-angle lens. The upgrade could be the fruit of the much-hyped Olympus partnership.

The camera upgrades don't stop there. Samsung could offer a white sub-pixel to the traditional RGB (Red, Green, and Blue). The RGBW setup on the 50MP main camera will help the phone better highlight high-contrast scenes. Another thing, Galaxy S22 can shoot 8K at 60fps, which is an improvement from the 24fps on Galaxy S21.

4. Processor

According to speculation by Ice Universe, Samsung Galaxy S22 could be powered by the newly launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. As a result, it's possible to imagine that the phone will score higher than its predecessors in terms of speed. Qualcomm says that the Kryo CPU that runs the chipset offers 20% faster processing speed and 30% more power savings.

In the meantime, LetsGoDigital, a Dutch blog, claims that Galaxy S22 may also feature an active fan mode, similar to what you have on your PC. This will offer the much-needed cooling effect during intensive usage, making the phone perfect for 4K streaming and online gameplay.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 on Galaxy S21 is no slouch either. This modern-era smartphone processor supports simultaneous 4K resolution video streaming with high-dynamic imagery. For photos, Snapdragon 888 uses advanced AI training to give precise photo focus and brightness. But all in all, the newer and faster processing power is the main shining point of Galaxy S22.

5. RAM and Storage

Again, the Samsung S22 details regarding the memory capacity are very scant. But assuming Samsung sticks to its latest tradition, expect the S22 and S22 Plus to offer 128GB and 256GB non-expandable memories. Rumor even has it that the S22 Ultra could come with a 512GB version. As for the RAM, Samsung Galaxy S22 is expected to run on an 8GB storage. Of course, this is the industry standard for most high-end smartphones these days.

6. Battery capacity

Both phones come equipped with a 4,000mAh battery capacity. Now that's more than enough for a smartphone this size, although it's a pity the developer doesn't up to things a little bit in this case. But the improved chip efficiency on the Galaxy S22 will likely offer its users a few hours more battery juice.

In addition, fast charging in Galaxy S22 will be via USB-C PD, just like its predecessor. But expect Samsung only to package a USB-C cable in the box as it does with Galaxy S21. This means you'll have to purchase the 25W charger if you don't have one. This unpopular decision was made in line with the company's goal to conserve the environment by reducing electronic waste emissions. And yes, the company will save money in the process.

It's also worth noting that the Galaxy S22 series could pack 25W wireless charging under the hood. This is a notable upgrade over Galaxy S21's 15W charging. Obviously, this means faster charging for Galaxy S22 users, although a specific stand will be needed. So, all said, expect a solid battery life with the Galaxy S22 model.
